[Cosplay] Beware of Traps

Behind a pretty face there may be a...
Trap!!
Just goes to show how amazing make up is, how PS is an amazing creation and how dedicated some people are to the "lifestyle/hobby" of cosplaying.

[Cosplay] Yaya

As you have seen in my latest art log, my heart's been captured by Yaya from Unbreakable Machine Dolls. I found this Hong Kong cosplayer, Sakurahime, that cos'ed Yaya at a recent event.
~She's so pretty!

Brisbane Supernova 2013: Code Geass CC R2 Cosplay

It has been well over a month since I did my last post, though in my defense uni obligations plus workin' on my cosplay costume consumed most of my time. So there.

Anyhow here's my journey through the process of creating my first serious cosplay ever. Enjoy.

First of all, I chopped up some old bed sheets and made a model with my pattern. Had to fix the sizing several times.

Next, traced the pattern on to the cloth with some tailors chalk. (all together, the cloth cost about $30)

With the zipper sewn on. Found a lovely tutorial. As you can see, I used a LOT of pins. Needless to say I was pricked silly the entire time. ( You know in anime? How the girl tries to sew things for the guy and ends up with a handful of bandages and cuts? It was like that. Except maybe less blood)

 Prickly column of death.

Followed by progress pic, the columns of cloth pretty much sewn together by now :D.

On to the details! Above are a set of fail chest panels, besides being horribly uneven I tried to sew the gold bias tape on after the panels were attached to the dress (?) Bad idea. Had to unpick the entire collar and the panels and the upper stitches. I think I teared up a little.

New back and front panels with bias tape sewn on BEFORE stitching to dress thing.
Sewing the armholes, the white strips attached to the cloth are fusible interfacing bits to make the material stiffer and more fancy looking.

Ok, ok I know I cheated. Meh. What are do gonna do bout it ?
Chopping out the lining cloth.
So satiny ^-^
FINALLY DONE. NO KIDDING THIS WAS HARD.
Test try without collar and lower gold bias tape. I did iron the leg flaps after this.
Coloring the arm cuffs gold for uniformity.

Ironing interfacing onto the collar, as you can see on the pic on the right, I made it thicker on the two ends for added standing-uppiness.

Test trial with belts and collar and cuffs.
Buttons came in the mail!
Layering on the fabric paint for the Geass design down the front.

It's actually a bit crooked... But no-one needs to know that heheh

CC themed nails.

Makeup time!!
With gold circle lenses on from lensvillage.com
I got I-fairy tofi-gold lenses (maybe cause they were on sale. Hey hey! We're working with a student budget here)

 Makeup costests!

Note the contouring and stuff.

I ended up going with the third one.

Ok. All done. Ready for it?

The final unveil!!

Cosplayer appreciation post: Reika

Reika is an amazing Japanese cosplayer. She did all of these UtaPri cosplays herself! (You really can't tell that these are all the same person!)
She makes all of her own costumes and props.
She's been invited to numerous overseas events, and hopefully one day she can make her way to Australia! Last weekend, she was at Taiwan.
Her singing is pretty good as well.
You should check out her SnK cosplays too!

The difference between Cosplay makeup fails and wins: Contouring

Cosplay update: I've been AWOL for awhile, collecting stuff, making stuff and trialing stuff for my second cosplay (hopefully a win). I've taken quite a lot of photos of the costume creation process, makeup trials process etc etc. But not wanting to spoil mah super surprise post, I've just decided to gather all this and last months stuff into one super big post on the whole process. Hopefully I'll be able to help some people out...

Anyhoow I'm here to discuss the findings of my most recent makeup trial. Contouring.
I know, I know, I've talked about it before, but hopefully this photo will convince you of the necessity of contouring your face up for a photoshoot or a cosplay.
Crud. It's a little blurry, but if you note my make up-ed side of my face, you'll see much more shadows and it looks more three dimensional. (Plus my eye seems to have grown a size. BTW Great eye makeup tutorial here: http://wenqiann.deviantart.com/art/Cosplay-eye-makeup-tutorial-351629070)

Anyway, point is. No matter how awesome your costume is, the finishing touch is the makeup.

Stuff to contour with:
-Bronzer
-Eyeshadow
-Actual contour-highlight palettes

Contour/Highlight Tick-off list:
-Nose bridge: (Contour both sides and highlight the middle)
- Just under the cheekbones for a slimmer looking face.
-Highlight your chin
-Highlight under your eyes.
-Highlight the middle of your forehead.
-Highlight Brow bone

Shingeki no Kyojin (Cosplay) - 「This love」

Remember this post about a SnK fan that drew a trace-over adaptation of Shinhwa's "This Love"?
A group of Chinese SnK cosplayers actually danced the whole song at a recent cosplay competition.
Isn't it awesome?

Serah's Basic Cosplay Makeup

Finally! We get to what I'mm actually here for! Cosplay makeup! Welps people, I have been searching and watching tutorials and everything and this is the fruits of my labor! My basic cosplay makeup is especially for cosplay noobs and people who want and easily adaptable base so here goes!

Stuff you'll definitely need:
- eyelid tape if you don't have double eyelids (though there is actually a way to get around this, guess you'll just have to stay tuned for my next tutorial ;))
 - brown eyeshadow
 - a black eyeliner that DOESN'T SMUDGE <-- Super Important
 - A white eyeliner
 - upper fake eyelashes
 - lower fake eyelashes
 - concealer
 - a decent water soluble glue stick ( I used elmer's)
 - foundation (want a guide to picking your foundation? Stay tuned :P)
 - bronzer ( once again, there's a way to get around this one as well but you'll need some brown eyeshadow which you should probably already have if you're actually paying attention to this guide at all)

No Free! episode but something else special...?

I woke up early (as usual) to watch Free! only to remember that there is no Free! this week. :(
However the Free! website updated with something special, birthday messages from all the boys to Nagisa!
Since there's no Free!, enjoy some Free! cosplay instead.

[Cosplay tips] How to highlight your eyes with a spoon

Since we started a Cosplay tab, I thought I would also help out contributing to this section.
Here's an interesting tutorial on how to draw the double eyelid effects using a spoon.
If you do try this out, let us know how effective this method is!

My Debut!

OK, ok not exactly my real debut, since I used to have a personal blog, but 'tis my new grande debut into the Mbt team! I have to say I feel like a kid in a candy store - so many topics to cover~so many options~

Even though, I have signed myself down to be the resident noob cosplayer, I have the attention span of a sugar high ADD child and therefore will deviate all over the place depending on what strikes my particular taste of fancy of the week.

I bet Mbt is regretting his brash decision in recruiting me.

SO without further ado,

je presente moi!

Or... you know, moi with a pink wig and suitably copious amounts of filtering and makeup to cover my not-so-flawless skin and a doped out expression.
(Ahh instagram, what would I do without your Xpro II and Nashville filters...)

Don't worry, I'll be covering stuff like this in my soon-to-be-realized makeup tutorials which are really the only thing I can really contribute to this page.

Anyhows I hope I don't bore out you peeps too much with my adventures in gaming and cosplay. See you in my next post!

Shingeki no Kyojin Boulder cosplay...

What exactly does cosplay mean? Does dressing up as anything that appears in an anime considered as cosplay?
Someone "cosplayed" as the boulder that Eren picked up to block the wall in Shingeki no Kyojin. Is this acceptable?
